One of the objectives of Software Technology Parks of India is to provide effective data communication facilities to the esteemed Software Exporters. STPI names the data communication Network owned by it as SoftNet.


SoftNet:(Data Communication Network)

One of the objectives of Software Technology Parks of India is to provide effective data communication facilities to the esteemed Software Exporters. In persuasion of this objective the STPI established its own gateways at its nodal centres located in different parts of the country.STPI names the data communication Network owned by it as SoftNet.

STPI center at Shimla has been providing the High Speed Data Communication facilities to the IT industry through the International gateway with 3.8 meter dish anteena capable of Multiple Carrier operation and with scaleable configuration is set up in the city. The Location of the Earth Station is such that it is in the Line of Sight (LOS) from most of the locations in Shimla as also from various other locations within a radius of 20 Km's from the station.

The customer premises in India will be connected to their client located abroad by gateway which will be located at Shimla through a radio link using either point to point or point (CDMA) to multi point radio (TDMA) Link.This will facilitate any company operating in India or abroad connected to Internet, and to access SoftNet.


SoftPoint : (International Leased Line)

SoftPoint offers POINT-TO-POINT International Leased High Speed Data Communication links starting from 64 Kbps upto 2 Mbps. The Customer premises in India will be connected to their client located abroad by gateway which will be located at Shimla through a radio link using either the point to point or point to multi point radio (TDMA) Link.

The Service will be available round the clock and charges will be fixed irrespective of the time and volume of data transferred by the user.


Soft Link: (Shared Internet Connection)
Soft Link is the TCP/IP based shared Internet service which uses its own International Gateway for the upstream connectivity.At present STPN backbone is connected through Up Stream Service providers to provide load balancing and fully redundancy services.

The TCP/IP service is called shared Internet as the upstream bandwidth is shared among the users. The user connected on the service has access to the complete Internet services available world wide such as:

  • E-Mail
  • FTP - ( File Transfer Protocol )
  • Remote Login
  • WWW (World Wide Web)
  • UseNET.
  • Data base access.

How to access the SoftLink ?

SoftLink is managed through a Wide Area Network plan . You will get a port on the ethernet Hub which will be Located in the LAN. The LAN will be further connected to the International Gateway and managed from Network Control Centre which will be located at STPI-Shimla.The LAN set-up will be directly connected to the International Gateway through a UTP backbone,whereas the LANs in different locations will be connected to the International Gateway via a microwave link

You can locate your unit anywhere outside in the city .STPI-Shimla will provide Point-to-Point or Point-to-MultiPoint radio link upto the ROUTER at your premises.

1) Leased Interent Access on Radio Local Loops:

Microwave radio connection of the desired bandwidth is set up from customer's premises to the International Gateways of STPI. These links are installed and maintained by STPI itself and the customer has to pay just one time installation charge. The data rate option for the Leased Interent Service on Radio are   n x 64 Kbps or n x 2048 Kbps.

2.)Leased Interent Access on DoT Local Loop:

A wired n x 64 K is hired form DoT for the customers. The customer will need to hire a lease line, of the required data rate, from DoT and will pay for the installation and annual lease access for the local loop. STPI will provide port access on its router and will charge for the same.

3). Leased Interent Accesss Using ISDN Lines:

Those who wished to use their ISDN lines for Interent access can use this facility. Customer will have to pay for an additional ISDN line at STPI as the line has to be used in dedicated mode. Service is presently available for ISDN, BRI and leased connection is for 64 Kbps or 128 Kbps.

Dial-up Interent Access

In dial-up access, a connection is established between the access and the STPI network on dialing the specific number(s) by the authorised subscribers.
